Executive Director / Counsellor (she/her)

Amelia is Ruah’s Executive Director and Lead Counsellor.

She is a registered social worker (BSW, MSW) with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW). She has a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland (2010) and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto (2013), with a ‘children and their families’ specialization.

Amelia began her career with Ruah in 2015 as a counsellor and group facilitator. In 2020 she became Ruah’s Clinical Lead, which to led to Amelia accepting the position of Executive Director in 2022. Amelia continues to provide counselling to individuals, couples and families as part of her clinical role at Ruah. She is also involved in community outreach and coordinates the delivery of community workshops and presentations.

Amelia has extensive experience in clinical assessment, counselling, and case management with individuals, children, youth, couples and families. She has completed intensive training in Attachment – Focused Family Therapy (AFFT), as well as additional training in Family Therapy, trauma-informed approaches to clinical work, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy Training (Level 1 and 2).

Amelia also has experience in group coordination and facilitation in the areas of trauma; emotional resilence; parenting children and youth; stress management; and anger management.

Amelia brings a strengths-based, non-judgmental approach to her clinical work. She is passionate about helping clients identify their strengths and feel empowered to embrace these strengths to overcome challenges and improve their well-being.
